The founders of Britton Tree Services, John and Denice Britton, were so concerned about the way trees were cared for that they initiated the program to Certify Arborists. Both John and Denice were on the first committee that established the Western Chapter International Society of Arboriculture’s Certified Arborist and Certified Tree Worker programs. They were so committed to the program, they actually ran it out of the Britton Tree office for the first 5 years, until it became self-sustaining and the non-profit organization could hire someone to work on it. That program began in 1982. Today, there are over 10,000 Certified arborists nationally.

When we assess your tree, we look at the entire organism and what it’s needs are. For instance, a tree that is in poor health should not be pruned to remove live branches. Instead, we examine the conditions in which it is growing, and recommend a program to increase is ability to grow new roots, or to resist disease. We may also suggest the dead branches be removed, so the tree’s response to the treatment can be easily monitored. If the tree’s health improves, there should be very few dead branches developing over the next year. If dead branches continue to develop – we know the tree is not responding to the treatment, so more measures may be needed.
A tree that is growing vigorously may need to have some live foliage removed to reduce weight on heavy limbs, or to slow its growth. Each tree is treated according to its individual needs, not according how much we think we can sell you.
We have been trained to recognize structural weaknesses that will lead to limb or trunk failure, our crews are among the best at installing movement restraint systems such as cables, rods, bracing and propping.
Some people consider our work expensive. But remember the old adage, “The bitterness of poor quality remains long after the sweetness of low price has been forgotten.” That is especially true with trees. Each and every pruning cut remains with the tree for the rest of its life. Don’t trust your trees to just anyone, make sure the people who work on them know what they are doing.
We know you care about the clean up, too! When we leave your garden, we take our mess with us. If you want the wood chips, we leave them in a convenient place for you. Wood chips are one of the best mulches you can use in a garden. They are perfect for lining paths, or for keeping under the tree itself.
